Trainer Handbook
SESSION 1: OPENING
STEP 9: CLOSING AND NEXT SESSION
STEP 9: Arousing Curiosity and Closing - Bridge to the Next Session
Note to the trainer: This step does not close a door; it ends by opening the next one. Participants should leave curious about what they will learn in the following session. Your closing sentence should be energetic and hopeful.
Method: Brief information and closing.
Materials: None.
Implementation steps:
Bridge sentence: The trainer creates interest in the next session by saying:
“Next week you will be introduced to a very powerful tool: the RULER Method, developed by Yale University and used in more than 100 countries around the world. This method teaches a child to say ‘I feel disappointed’ instead of ‘I feel good’ - in other words, to name the emotion precisely. Research shows that children who can name their emotions accurately experience fewer behavioural problems. Think about how important that is.”
Closing: The trainer looks at everyone and concludes:
“Today you did something very important: you were here. Both for yourselves and for the children in your care. That takes courage. Thank you all very much. See you next week.”
Participants' curiosity is aroused by announcing that the next session will involve work with two of the most powerful tools used in child psychology: the Yale University-approved RULER Method and the Mood Meter. The session is closed by thanking participants for their attendance.
