SESSION 2: EMOTIONAL AWARENESS
STEP 1: RECOGNISING EMOTIONS
STEP 1: Recognising and Naming Emotions
Note to the trainer: Help participants break the pattern of saying “I feel good / I feel bad”. Emphasise that all emotions are biological information, without dividing them morally into “right or wrong”.
Method: Interactive presentation and individual mapping.
Materials: Large Mood Meter poster and coloured sticky notes.
Implementation steps:
1. Presentation of the Mood Meter: The trainer projects the Mood Meter image onto the board. The trainer explains the diagram in the following words:
“Dear colleagues, emotions are not simply divided into ‘good’ or ‘bad’. To understand them better, we will look at two axes: the horizontal axis shows ‘pleasantness’ (feeling positive/negative), while the vertical axis shows our level of ‘energy’ (high/low). These two axes lead us to four coloured zones:
Red Zone: High energy, negative pleasantness (anger, anxiety, fear).
Blue Zone: Low energy, negative pleasantness (sadness, tiredness, disappointment).
Yellow Zone: High energy, positive pleasantness (happiness, excitement, enthusiasm).
Green Zone: Low energy, positive pleasantness (calmness, peace, relaxation).
2. Create Your Own Emotion Map: Participants are asked to consider their current levels of energy and pleasantness, select the colour that best represents them on the Mood Meter poster and mark it with a sticky note.
