SESSION 4: EMPATHY

STEP 3: “I Am Just Listening” Practice

STEP 3: “I Am Just Listening” Practice

Note to the trainer: Enable participants to experience the skill of “listening to understand” the other person, rather than listening in order to answer, advise or judge.

Method: Role-play.

Materials: List of “obstacles to being a good listener” (judging, comparing, immediately giving advice and being distracted).

Implementation steps:

1. “I Am Just Listening” game: Participants form pairs. The first participant begins to describe a real and difficult working day experienced in practice. 2. Role rules: For three minutes, the second participant must never interrupt or give advice, say “that is nothing”, or compare the account with their own memories. They simply listen by maintaining eye contact, nodding and being fully present. The roles are then reversed. 3. Evaluation: The trainer asks: “What did you feel in your body and emotional world when you were simply listened to, without being interrupted or given advice?”
